Blog: Can Happiness be a Design Principle?

Alexander Street project consists of a mix of industrial and creative industries as part of an innovation economy and creative ecosystem in the Vancouver area known as Railtown. The building design uses a simple utilitarian grid, founded on the historic industrial building typology and celebrates its context which includes vast ceiling heights, large warehouse windows and an exposed structure. Providing functional and flexible space for its tenants, the building’s mass is carved away to allow inhabitation of vegetation, adding softness signaling a metaphor for change and the light industrial and offices uses in this neighbourhood.
